Everyone wants to be fit, but who has the time or motivation to go to the gym? We all make our New Year’s resolutions and start strong, but by the time February rolls around the gyms are empty and we’re back on the couch.

What if I told you there are apps that will pay you to work out? Hard to believe? Well, it’s true.

These apps have come up with the perfect incentive to get you out the door and back into a healthy lifestyle – prizes and cash rewards. That’s right, they pay you to exercise. And who ever complained about a little extra money?

So lace up your sneakers and read on to learn about apps that will reward you for getting in shape.

1. Sweatcoin

Sweatcoin is a free app for both Android and iOS that pays you to walk in their digital currency: Sweatcoins. The app tracks your daily steps with your phone’s GPS and built-in accelerometer. When you’ve earned enough digital coins you can redeem them for exciting fitness products like Apple Watches and anit-gravity yoga classes or if you feel generous, donate them to charities.

With Sweatcoin, all movement has value. You don’t have to go to the gym or do a hardcore workout. It’s easy to earn rewards for being active. And most users become 20% more active each day!

I’ve used this app for a lot of years (since it was launched), they are a very honest company, they offer great offers and overall a fun way to walk more. Giada Ferici, Trustpilot

2. Evidation

Evidation (formally Achievement) pays you to be healthy. Earn money for walking, biking, swimming, and any other exercise you like. You can even earn for doing other healthy activities like logging food, sleep tracking, weighing yourself, meditation, or sharing your health journey on Twitter. Then redeem your points for cash, Amazon gift cards, or donate them to charity.

Evidation connects with over 20 other fitness tracking devices and apps like Fitbit, Apple Watch, MyFitnessPal, Garmin, Samsung Health, and Jawbone. Their goal is to make healthy decisions both fun and rewarding and we think they’re doing a good job!

If you love being outdoors, running or cycling, I imagine you could make $10 fast in a short amount of time.  What I love about this app is that it gives me the motivation to get up in the morning and be active. Brian Meiggs

So far, Evidation has paid out over $500,000 to their members and there is no limit to how much you can earn. Get inspired to live a healthier lifestyle and start earning!

3. DietBet

Want to shed some pounds while padding your wallet? DietBet is the place to go. Considered one of the best apps to get paid for exercising it’s certainly worth checking out.

Join in the Kickstarter game and aim to lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks. Or go big with Transformer and lose 10% of your body weight in 6 months. Choose the game that fits your weight-loss goals and bet on yourself.

In terms of popularity, DietBet currently has over 850,000 players, nearly 16 million pounds lost, and has given out over $62 million dollars! Daniel Friedman

Bets range from $10-$500 with most people betting around $35. And if you lose the weight, cash out!

Now, you won’t make a lot of money when you win your bet since DietBet takes 20-25% of the prize pool but you won’t lose money if you win and you’ll have the added motivation to push you forward on your weight loss journey.

4. HealthyWage

Looking for a weight loss challenge with a higher stake? HealthyWage gives you the chance to win up to $10,000 if you meet your weight-loss goal!

Place a bet on yourself to win cash prizes – the bigger the bet, the bigger the reward. Players typically win $1,000, $3,000, and $7,000 prizes! If you reach or surpass your challenge you get all the money you bet plus additional winnings.

Jennifer D. lost 102 pounds over the course of 10 months and won $4,181 from HealthyWage. Glenn S. also lost the same amount of weight in the same timeframe and walked away with $1,383. The reason behind the difference is that Jennifer bet $150 per month for a total of $1,500. Glenn made a weight loss bet of $40 per month for a total of $400. Robin Kavanagh & Yahia Barakah

According to HealthyWage, 75% of users reduce their weight while participating in a challenge. It’s time to get motivated and put that money on the table!

5. StepBet

If you love a little competition and want to earn money through personal fitness goals, StepBet is the app for you. You bet money with other players and win when you reach your fitness goals. If you don’t reach them, you lose all the money you put up.

The app connects with tracking apps and devices like Fitbit, Google Fit, Apple Health and more to count your steps.

The bets are much less than HealthyWager, ringing in at only $40 a bet for each 6-week-long challenge. So if you want something that is less risk, less reward but still comes with a monetary motivation then StepBet is the app for you.

The best part of the app is the community that pushes you forward to make sure you get all your steps in and win the prize.

6. Fit Potato 2

Challenge your friends and other participants on the FitPotato app to earn money just for walking.

The contests are only 7 days long. All you have to do is complete three-step sessions of 10,000 steps within those 7 days to win part of the weekly prize. Easy peasy.

Fit Potato connects with Apple Health Steps and your phone’s GPS to track your steps.

It’s like StepBet, only even lower risk – the buy-in is a measly $5 – and iOS only.

You won’t get rich, but it’s a fun way to get motivated to start walking.

7. Pact

Make your workouts count monetarily with Pact. Set gym and diet goals each week and choose how much you’d like to wager from $5 to $50. One significant difference with this app is it charges you if you miss your goals but pays you when you succeed.

Track your workouts with Jawbone Up or Fitbit and count your calories with MyFitnessPal to prove you’re reaching your goals. The best part, your daily 10,000 steps count as a workout!

Not only can you earn real cash with Pact, but it keeps you accountable for your fitness routine. A win-win for your wallet and your physique!

8. Winwalk 2

WinWalk is a free pedometer and health app that counts your daily steps, calories, and walking distance automatically. Walk 100 steps and you’ll earn 1 coin. When you’ve earned 100 coins, you can redeem them for gift cards from Amazon, Starbucks, Target, Sephora, and more.

If you walk a lot, you can make an easy extra $10-$20 per year! What better way to earn passive income than to do your daily walks?

9. Fitcoin

If you’re a fitness enthusiast looking to dip your toes into the world of cryptocurrencies, Fitcoin is the perfect fit for you. This app allows you to earn cryptocurrency by completing various fitness challenges, such as running, cycling, walking, climbing stairs, and even yoga.

Get paid to meet your daily step goals. Track your runs, count your calories, and challenge your friends to contests to earn even more!

Fitcoin is much more than an app that rewards you for hitting your fitness goals. We are instilling positive habits and positive lifestyle changes through reward affirmation. C.E.O. Of Fitcoin, Andrew Shore

10. Bitwalking

Want to get paid to walk? That’s exactly what the passive income app Bitwalking does. Register for free, let the app run on your phone (Android only, sorry iOS users) and start walking. It doesn’t get more passive than that.

This innovative app rewards you in a digital currency called Bitwalking Dollars (BW$). Use it at the Bitwalking store to snag a FitBit Blazew, Jawbone Up 2, or other fitness devices.

The app doesn’t pay much, roughly $1 per 5 miles but it can motivate you to lace up your shoes and start moving!

11. MyWalgreens

Combine your love for fitness and savings with MyWalgreens, formally Walgreens Balance Rewards. Earn Balance Reward points for tracking your walks, workouts, and other healthy activities, and then redeem them for Redemption Dollars to be used at Walgreens to save money on all your essentials.

To participate, link to your MyWalgreens app to your fitness tracker or Fitbit account and log your steps. You’ll earn about 20 Balance Rewards points per mile.

Sign up for four-week Health Based Challenges to earn extra Walgreens cash. Health Goals challenges include running every day, walking 10,000 steps daily, or cycling once a week. Lifestyle Goals are eating more vegetables, meditating, or drinking more water. It’s easy to be active and earn $2 per month with MyWalgreens. Who doesn’t want free money?

12. Charity Miles

Why not make your workout count for a cause? Charity Miles donates money to your chosen charity for every mile you bike, walk, or run. The app uses your phone’s GPS and motion sensors to track your mileage.

Choose from over two dozen charities including Habitat for Humanity, Alzheimer’s Association, Feeding America, WWF, Autism Speaks, and Wounded Warrior Project. You’ll get in shape and spread money to those in need.

For every mile you run or walk, you can earn up to $0.25 for the charity of your choice. Bikers can also earn up to $0.10 per mile for that same charity. Tom Blake

You do need to have the app turned on to track each workout, unlike some of the apps listed, it won’t count your daily steps.

Sweat for good and create a positive impact on the world while staying in shape.

13. MapMyFitness

Join Under Armour’s MapMyFitness apps where every mile you track is converted into points for fun fitness rewards. Choose from multiple apps depending on your favorite activity: MapMyWalk, MapMyRun, or MapMyRide.
