Why get the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card?

The Capital One Quicksilver card is a good option if you want a simple flat rate cash back card with few fees. One of the card’s biggest draws is its lack of fees; with no annual fee*, you can enjoy earning cash back without worrying about offsetting your rewards with costs. Additionally, the card has no foreign transaction fees*, making it ideal for travelers.

Earning rewards with the Quicksilver card is easy and straightforward. You receive a flat 1.5% cash back on every purchase, without having to keep track of rotating categories or spending caps. Redeeming your rewards is just as simple—there are no minimums, and you can redeem your cash back at any time for statement credits, checks, gift cards, and more.

Moreover, the Quicksilver card features other attractive benefits including a decent sign-up bonus and an introductory 0% APR* on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months. This feature can be particularly beneficial if you plan on making a large purchase or want to transfer a balance from a higher-interest card. After the intro period, a variable APR of 19.99%-29.99%* applies, but the initial 0% APR gives you breathing room to manage your finances effectively.

Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card rewards

Welcome offer

Capital One Quicksilver offers a solid sign-up bonus. New cardholders can earn $200 by spending $500 in the first three months. $500 in three months breaks down to $167.67 per month, which is a very easy threshold to hit. This welcome offer is pretty typical of no annual fee cash back cards, but is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a great way to kickstart your rewards and the low spending requirement makes it accessible even for those who prefer not to charge large amounts to their credit cards.

1.5% cash back on everything

The Capital One Quicksilver card gives a consistent 1.5% cash back on every purchase, with no spending categories or limits. This flat-rate reward structure means you earn the same percentage back whether you’re buying groceries, gas, or dining out. The simplicity of this approach eliminates the need to track or optimize spending in different categories. It’s ideal for people who prefer a hassle-free rewards experience or have varied spending habits. Over time, the 1.5% cash back can add up, especially for those who use the card regularly.

The one exception is you can earn 5% cash back when you book hotels or car rentals through Capital One Travel.

Easy redemption

Redeeming your cash back with the Capital One Quicksilver card is as effortless as earning it. There is no minimum redemption amount, so you can redeem your rewards whenever you like.  You can even enable automatic redemptions either at a set time of the year or when your rewards reach a certain threshold. Cash back rewards never expire, as long as your account remains open, so you have the flexibility to redeem at your convenience without any pressure.

You can redeem cash back via check, statement credit, to cover recent transactions, gift cards, or online purchases at Amazon or PayPal. Or if you have a Capital One travel card you can convert cash back into miles at a 1:1 ratio and redeem them for travel bookings. Unlike other cards, rewards have a consistent value of 1 cent each no matter how you redeem them.

Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card benefits and perks

Intro 0% APR* offer

The Capital One Quicksilver card offers a compelling introductory 0% APR* on both purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months, thereafter, a variable APR of 19.99%-29.99%* applies. This feature is particularly valuable if you’re planning a significant purchase or want to transfer a balance from a higher-interest card. During this period, you can carry a balance without accruing interest, giving you the flexibility to pay off your expenses over time without added financial strain.

Other cards come with longer intro periods but they may be only for new purchases or balance transfers, not both. Many will also have larger balance transfer fees than Quicksilver, potentially making them more expensive.

Extended warranty

When you use your Capital One Quicksilver card to make eligible purchases, you’ll benefit from extended warranty protection. This perk automatically extends the manufacturer’s warranty on eligible items by an additional year, offering peace of mind when buying electronics, appliances, or other high-cost items.

Travel perks

The Capital One Quicksilver card includes several travel-related perks, making it a useful companion for frequent travelers. In addition to no foreign transaction fees*, which saves you money on purchases made abroad, the card also offers travel accident insurance. This coverage provides financial protection in case of accidents while traveling, giving you peace of mind during your trips. Additionally, the card provides 24-hour travel assistance services, helping you with emergency card replacement in case anything happens on your trip.

Capital One’s complimentary concierge service can help you make dining reservations, get event tickets, and book travel. The service itself is free but you have to cover third-party charges. Combine this with Capital One Travel and you can get the best prices on your trips. Capital One Travel lets you pay with your card, rewards, or both.

Capital One shopping

Capital One Shopping is an online shopping tool that automatically applies available coupon codes helping you save on everyday purchases. Not only can you get coupons, but you can use your rewards on eligible purchases at millions of online stores through PayPal or on Amazon.

Pros and cons of the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card

Pros

  • No annual fee*: Enjoy all the benefits of the card without having to pay an annual fee. The low cost makes it accessible for any budget.
  • 1.5% cash back on every purchase: Earn consistent rewards on all spending, with no categories to track.
  • Simple and easy redemption: Redeem your rewards at any time with no minimums, and set up automatic redemptions if desired.
  • Welcome offer: Earn a $200 cash bonus after spending $500 within the first three months.
  • Introductory 0% APR*: Benefit from 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months. After that, a variable APR of 19.99%-29.99%* applies.
  • No foreign transaction Fees*: Ideal for travelers, as you can use the card abroad without incurring extra fees.
  • Additional perks: Enjoy extended warranty protection, travel accident insurance, and Uber-related rewards in addition to shopping and travel protections from Mastercard.

Cons

  • No bonus rewards: The flat 1.5% cash back may be less appealing to those who spend heavily in specific categories and could earn more rewards with category-specific cards.
  • Higher flat rates exist: Other flat rate cards offer 2% cash back. The extra 0.5% can add up over the course of a year.
  • Foreign exchange rate markups: Although there are no foreign transaction fees*, the card may still apply standard exchange rate markups.
  • Better balance transfer offers: Other cards offer balance transfers with no or lower fees or have longer introductory APR periods.

Why you might want a different cash back card

Low flat cash back rate

While the Capital One Quicksilver card offers a straightforward 1.5% cash back on every purchase, this rate might not be ideal for everyone. If you spend heavily in specific categories like groceries, dining, or travel, other cards offer higher cash back rates in those areas. Cards with rotating or tiered reward categories can provide significantly more value if your spending aligns with those categories, making them a better choice for maximizing rewards.

Other cash back cards offer a higher flat rate of 2% on everything. If you spend $1,000 per month at a 1.5% cash back rate you’ll earn $180 by the end of the year. A 2% cash back rate would net you $240. While 0.5% doesn’t sound like much, it can add up in the end.

Few perks

Although the Quicksilver card includes some useful benefits like extended warranty protection and no foreign transaction fees*, it lacks the more robust perks found with premium cash back cards. If you’re seeking additional benefits like airport lounge access, higher-end travel protections, or extensive purchase protections, you might find more value in a card that offers a broader range of perks, even if it comes with an annual fee.

Is the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card right for you?

The Capital One Quicksilver card is a good choice if you prefer simplicity in a cash back card. With a flat 1.5% cash back rate on all purchases, it’s perfect for those who don’t want to manage rotating categories or track spending thresholds. The card’s lack of an annual fee* ensures that your rewards aren’t offset by costs, and the introductory 0% APR* on purchases and balance transfers provides added financial flexibility.

However, if you spend heavily in specific categories like groceries, dining, or travel, you’ll find more value in a card that offers higher reward rates in those areas. Additionally, if you’re looking for more premium perks, such as airport lounge access or comprehensive travel insurance, a different cash back card with a broader range of benefits might better suit you.

Ultimately, the Capital One Quicksilver is ideal for individuals seeking a straightforward, low-cost way to earn and redeem cash back without the hassle of a complex reward structure.

Frequently asked questions

1. What credit score is recommended for the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card?

Most people who qualify for the Capital One Quicksilver card have good to excellent credit or a FICO score of 670 or higher. Having a higher score increases your chances of securing the card and receiving better terms, such as a lower APR, but this is not the only thing Capital One considers. Other factors typically include your income, current debt levels, and employment.

2. Does the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card have an annual fee?

No, the Capital One Quicksilver card does not have an annual fee*. This makes it an attractive option for those who want to earn cash back rewards without the added cost of maintaining the card.

3. Does the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card have a sign-up offer?

Yes, the Capital One Quicksilver card offers a sign-up bonus for new cardholders. You can earn a $200 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.

4. Is the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card a good card for travel?

The Capital One Quicksilver card can be a good option for casual travelers due to its no foreign transaction fees*, allowing you to make purchases abroad without extra costs. Additionally, it offers travel accident insurance and 24-hour travel assistance services. However, it lacks premium travel perks like airport lounge access, making it less suitable for frequent travelers seeking extensive travel benefits.

5. What is the difference between the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card and QuicksilverOne?

The primary difference between Capital One’s Quicksilver and QuicksilverOne cards lies in the recommended credit score and fees. The Quicksilver card is designed for those with good to excellent credit and has no annual fee*. In contrast, the QuicksilverOne is aimed at those with fair credit and comes with a $39 annual fee. Both cards offer 1.5% cash back on all purchases, but the Quicksilver card provides better overall terms for qualified applicants.

Bottom line

The Capital One Quicksilver cash rewards credit card is a solid choice for individuals seeking a straightforward, no-frills cash back card. Its flat 1.5% cash back on all purchases, combined with no annual fee*, makes it an attractive option for those who want to earn rewards without the complexity of tracking spending categories. The card’s easy redemption process and the valuable introductory 0% APR* on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months add further appeal.

While the Quicksilver card offers several perks, it may not be the best fit for everyone. Those who spend heavily in specific categories or seek more premium travel benefits can find other cards that offer greater value. Additionally, individuals with fair credit might consider the QuicksilverOne card, though it comes with an annual fee.

Ultimately, the Capital One Quicksilver card is well-suited for users who prioritize simplicity, low costs, and consistent rewards on everyday spending.
